Robert O’Neill is a retired detective from Northern Virginia. Bob is the author of two books – Small But Important Riots, The Cavalry Battles of Aldie, Middleburg and Upperville in 1993 and Chasing Jeb Stuart and John Mosby, The Union Cavalry in Northern Virginia from Second Manassas to Gettysburg in 2012. His latest book, a complete re-write of Aldie, Middleburg, and Upperville, will be published in 2022. He has led numerous tours of the cavalry battlefields in the Loudoun Valley, as well as several Custer related tours in Montana, Wyoming, and Kansas. Bob’s presentation, A Tale of Two Raids, is drawn from his book Chasing Jeb Stuart and John Mosby. Bob will discuss Jeb Stuart’s Christmas Raid of 1862 and a phantom raid of 1863. The first one received little attention from the press or modern historians. The second one didn’t even happen but was influential in Union command circles from Chancellorsville to Gettysburg.

Our next meeting will once again be held at the Affton Elks Club, 6330 Heege. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. As an experiment, we will also be making the meeting available via Zoom for $10.
